Dodgers News: Andre Ethier Takes 2020 World Series Trophy To Glendale, AZ City Hall

Former Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier made an appearance at a Glendale City Hall in Arizona and had with him the team’s 2020 World Series trophy. Ethier resides in Arizona and the Dodgers have had their championship trophy at Camelback Ranch since Spring Training began.

Ethier thanked the council and local residents for their support of the Dodgers, who have made their spring home in Glendale since 2009. The Dodgers drew over 100,000 fans to Spring Training in each of their first 11 years in Arizona, with the streak only snapped last spring because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

During 2019 Spring Training, the Dodgers tallied 154,884 in total attendance for 15 home games (10,326 average). That was good for their second-highest average and third-highest total since moving Spring Training operations to Camelback Ranch in 2009.

Ethier being an Arizona ambassador for the Dodgers is of course fitting as he was born in the Grand Canyon State. Ethier starred at St. Mary’s High School before moving onto Arizona State University and eventually being selected in the second round (No. 62 overall) in the 2003 MLB Draft.

Ethier was traded to the Dodgers in December 2005 and made his MLB debut with the team the following year. In 12 seasons with the Dodgers, Ethier was a two-time All-Star, won a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger, and finished his career hitting .285/.359/.463 over 1,455 career games.

Ethier retired with a Dodgers franchise record of 51 postseason games played, which was broken by Yasiel Puig as he reached 58 in 2018. Ethier was elected to the 2020 Arizona Sports Hall of Fame class and is due to be enshrined in April.

Ethier celebrated Dodgers World Series title

Ever since retiring after the 2017 season, Ethier has maintained close ties to the Dodgers organization. Although no longer playing, he celebrated their World Series championship in traditional MLB fashion.
