Although the Los Angeles Dodgers suffered a disappointing postseason exit, they are going to be represented while the National League Championship Series is being played as Kiké Hernández is due to be part of an alternate broadcast on truTV.
TBS remains the exclusive home for all 2023 NLCS games between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Philadelphia Phillies, which can also be streamed via their app and Max through Bleacher Report sports-add on. Brian Anderson is handling play-by-play duties, and he’s joined in the booth by Ron Darling and Jeff Francoeur, and Matt Winer is working as the reporter.
In addition to Hernández, the NLCS alternate broadcast on truTV — coined “Postseason ALTcast: Peloteros” — is going to feature former Dodgers reporter Alanna Rizzo hosting, plus a panel that includes Pedro Martínez, Albert Pujols, Yonder Alonso and Néstor Cortés for Game 1.
The same group is also going to be part of the ALTcast on truTV for Game 2, while Iván Rodríguez is replacing Hernández on the panel in Game 3.
Details of remaining guest panels as the NLCS progresses will be announced at a later date.
Rizzo was part of the SportsNet LA broadcast team from 2014-2020. She then took on a role with MLB Network as a co-host alongside Chris “Mad Dog” Russo on “High Heat.”
She received a 2020 Dodgers World Series ring and in 2021, returned to Dodger Stadium for an MLB Network broadcast.
“I’m definitely looking forward to going back home and doing that again,” she told DodgerBlue.com at the time. “I can’t wait for that.”
Rizzo is going to be back at Dodger Stadium on January 6, 2024, for a scorekeeping class to benefit her Guidry Guardian’s foundation. She held an inaugural event in February 2020.
Kiké Hernández embraces postseason pressure
When the Boston Red Sox traded Hernández to the Dodgers this year, he spoke of looking forward to another opportunity to play in October.
“I progressively started playing less and less in Boston, and I prepared myself to potentially be traded,” Hernández said hours before making his 2023 Dodgers debut. “Obviously didn’t know where, but it’s a thing that happens when you’re a veteran guy on an expiring contract. When I heard I was coming back here, crazy world.
“A lot of emotions. Like I said, I’m here and looking forward to playing October baseball. The people that know me, know that the only thing I love more than playing in October is my family.”
Hernández then appeared off the bench in Games 1 and 2 of the NL Division Series, then received a start in what wound up being an elimination loss for the Dodgers. Hernández went 2-for-4 with one RBI in Game 3.
“I’m no mental performance coach, no brain doctor or anything,” Hernández began when asked about his career success in the postseason.
“Just the way I put it is, I like to be in the moment. I want to be in the big moment. I want the big at-bat. I feel like I’ve been preparing for these types of moments my entire life. I never just dreamed about playing the big leagues, but I always envisioned myself, as a little kid, playing in the World Series, big moments in the World Series.”
