Dodgers Extend National League Record For Consecutive Games Played Without Extra Innings

The Los Angeles Dodgers extended their National League record by playing 76 consecutive games to begin a season without going to extra innings.

The previous NL record belonged to the Colorado Rockies, who started the 2023 season with 73 games before playing extras. The Dodgers added onto their record Friday night with a comeback and walk-off win against the Baltimore Orioles.

Their streak is only the second-longest in MLB history, as the 2005 Boston Red Sox went 98 consecutive games without playing in extra innings. The Red Sox did not play in extra innings until their 99th game on July 25, 2005.

Still, the Dodgers now have the second-longest streak of avoiding extra innings in MLB history.

The Dodgers last played in extra innings during the regular season on Sept. 24, 2025, against the Arizona Diamondbacks, when they lost 5-4. That means they have played a total of 80 consecutive regular season games without extras.

Last year, the Dodgers went 8-7 (.533) in their extra inning appearances, and 9-7 (.563) in 2024. That was an improvement over 2023 when they were 6-6, and 2022 when they went 6-9 (.400).

To get to this point in 2026, the Dodgers have 23 comeback wins, which is fourth-most baseball. They also have four walk-off wins.

They additionally have won four consecutive one-run games, which is the first time they’ve done so since May 30 to June 2, 2010. Three of those victories came against the Tampa Bay Rays before their win against the Orioles.

The Dodgers have also posted MLB’s best Interleague record so far this year by going 17-8 (.650).

Dodgers 2025 extra inning results

In 2025, the Dodgers went to extra innings for the first time during the fourth game of the season and the second of their opening series at Dodger Stadium. They defeated the Detroit Tigers, 8-5, in the 10th inning on March 28.

The longest game the Dodgers played went 13 innings against the New York Mets, when they won 7-5 in the Big Apple with Luis García earning the win.

Of course, they also went on to play three extra inning games in the postseason, winning all of them. The first was their 11-inning affair against the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL Division Series, which ended on a throwing error that sent the Dodgers to the NL Championship Series.

They also played two in the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, including the 18-inning marathon that saw Will Klein become a Dodgers hero and Freddie Freeman hit the walk-off homer.

And the final one was Game 7 of the World Series, which saw Miguel Rojas tie the game in the ninth before Will Smith hit the game-winning homer. That also happens to be the last time the Dodgers played in extra innings.
