Mookie Betts Makes Comparison To Steph Curry

Mookie Betts was one of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ hottest hitters during the month of June, which came after he endured a rough start to his 2026 season.

Betts hit .290/.339/.477 with five doubles, five home runs and 12 RBI in 115 plate appearances across 26 games. He kept improving as the month went on, finishing 19-for-51 (.373) with seven extra-base hits and 10 RBI over his final 12 contests.

Betts, who at one point homered in three consecutive games, compared himself to NBA star Steph Curry heating up from behind the 3-point line, via Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.

“It’s like Steph (Curry),” Betts said at his locker Sunday morning, fresh off his third consecutive game with a home run in his resurgent June. “You just need to see a ball go through the rim.”

Now that Betts has been able to sustain some success at the plate, he steps into the batter’s box with a mindset of making contact every time:

“Just hit it,” Betts told The Athletic. “Just see the ball, and hit it.”

Even as he struggled, Betts remained one of the Dodgers’ most important players due to his stellar defense at shortstop. Now that he is hitting at an All-Star level again, the 33-year-old could re-establish himself as one of the sport’s most valuable players.

Betts recorded at least one hit in 11 of his final 12 games to close out the month of June. Included in that stretch was five multi-hit games and a trio of three-hit performances.

Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts cautious

Although he closed out the month of June on a hot streak, Betts still isn’t ready to say he has gotten his season back on track. Freddie Freeman echoed that sentiment as he didn’t want to jinx the eight-time All-Star.

“It’s baseball. We can’t say that. It can go sideways real quick,” Freeman cautioned on SportsNet LA.

“He’s swinging the bat really well. I’m not going to be the one to jinx it either. But he’s confident in himself, missiling balls into left-center. That last one, against Jason Adam, that’s a tough AB. And it’s a line drive into right field.”

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts also believes Betts is starting to look like his old self again and recently attributed his offensive turnaround to feeling more confident at the plate.
