Shohei Ohtani was voted the unanimous winner of the 2024 National League MVP Award, which was announced by Clayton Kershaw during a live special on MLB Network.

Kershaw, currently a Dodgers free agent, became an NL MVP winner himself in 2014. While that was a notable achievement, Ohtani has continued to keep himself in a category no other player has reached.

Ohtani became the first player in MLB history with a 50-50 season and that propelled him to winning a third career MVP Award. Each of Ohtani’s three MVPs have come in unanimous fashion.

No other player in MLB history has accomplished that feat more than once. Ohtani also became the first full-time designated hitter to win an MVP Award.

Furthermore, Ohtani and Frank Robinson are the only two players to ever win an MVP in both leagues.

Ohtani additionally became the first Dodgers player to unanimously win MVP, and their 13th overall recipient.

Dodgers votes for 2024 NL MVP

Shohei Ohtani

Ohtani received all 30 first-place votes for the 2024 NL MVP Award. He was followed by New York Mets’ Francisco Lindor garnering 23 votes for second place and seven for third, totaling 263 overall points.

Fellow NL MVP finalist Ketel Marte of the Arizona Diamondbacks had 229 points behind five votes for second place, 13 for third, nine for fourth, two for fifth and one for sixth.

Mookie Betts

One year after finishing in second place for the NL MVP Award, Mookie Betts still appeared on the 2024 ballot as he placed 13th with 24 points.

Betts garnered one vote for sixth place, two for seventh, four for ninth and three for 10th. Betts won the 2018 American League MVP Award.

Freddie Freeman

Freddie Freeman, another finalist for 2023 NL MVP, also received votes this year as came in 17th place with six points.

Freeman received one vote each for eighth, ninth and 10th place. Freeman was named NL MVP in 2020.

Teoscar Hernández

Teoscar Hernández checked in tied for 20th on the NL MVP ballot with three points. Hernández’s only vote was for eighth place.
