This past week in Wichita, Kansas, a statue honoring Brooklyn Dodgers legend Jackie Robinson was stolen from McAdams Park.
The statue was later found completely destroyed and due to extensive damage, it was beyond repair.
Once the statue went missing, League 42 asked for help to replace the statue. Many donations came in, and executive director and founder Bob Lutz announced that MLB also reached out to the foundation to aid in any way they can.
How about this? Amazing, huh?
During this emotional week, we are proud to report some great news. @MLB, which has been in touch with @League42ICT from the moment this tragedy became public, has formalized their support for our youth.

The value of the original statue was more than $75,000. Lutz noted that MLB and all 30 teams have each committed financial resources, which would go a long way to replacing the treasured statue.
The Commissioner’s Office and the 30 Clubs have committed funding towards the costs of replacing our Jackie Robinson statue and providing other means of support of League 42.

The search for the perpetrators is ongoing, with both the fire department and police investigating the crime. The Wichita Metro Crime Commission is offering a $2,500 reward for any information that leads to an arrest.
The Dodgers legend has several statues around the United States, including one at Dodger Stadium, which the team unveiled during the 2017 season.
Robinson’s impact in Major League Baseball was felt far greater than his contributions to the Dodgers, but most notably in breaking the color barrier in MLB on April 15, 1947. He also had extensive work in the advancement of civil rights.
Fundraiser for replacement Jackie Robinson statue nears goal
The initial fundraiser was set with a goal of $175,000, and as of early February 1, the total tally was nearing $169,000.
With more than 3,300 donations, there has been an unbelievable level of support. Money donated will go directly to the cause, with any donations that exceed the goal being put to use in funding their operational needs and educational programs.
