Max Muncy added his name to Los Angeles Dodgers record books during the game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday night.
Muncy’s pinch-hit blast off Antonio Senzatela was his 131st career home run at Dodger Stadium, which broke a tie with Eric Karros for the most in the ballpark’s history. Muncy’s record-setting home run gave the Dodgers a lead in the sixth inning and fittingly came with Karros on the call for SportsNet LA.
Muncy has hit 232 home runs over parts of nine seasons with the Dodgers, which ranks second in L.A. franchise history. Karros is the all-time Dodgers leader with 270 home runs since the team moved from Brooklyn. Muncy seemingly would have a good chance to move ahead of Karros next year if he can continue producing and stays healthy.
Muncy is already the Dodgers’ all-time postseason home runs leader with 16, which he accomplished last year. That record was previously shared by Corey Seager and Justin Turner.
Muncy ranks fourth among MLB third basemen with 21 homers this season. The three-time World Series champion is on track to finish with his highest total since 2023, when he hit 36.
Max Muncy’s career with Dodgers
Muncy became the Dodgers’ longest-tenured player when Clayton Kershaw retired. He signed a one-year contract extension last offseason that runs through 2027. L.A. also holds a team option on Muncy for the 2028 season that includes a buyout.
The 35-year-old has become a fixture in the organization after nearly retiring from baseball. Muncy has regularly expressed his gratitude for the Dodgers and that’s been a key factor behind signing multiple team-friendly extensions.
For all he’s accomplished since joining the Dodgers back in 2018, Muncy is hopeful to next win a World Series at Dodger Stadium.
“We haven’t done that yet,” he said earlier this year. “It would be ideal to do that.”
The Dodgers’ back-to-back World Series championships saw them win deciding games in New York and Toronto, respectively. L.A. has won only one World Series-clinching game at Dodger Stadium, which came in 1963 when they swept the New York Yankees.
