Max Muncy has endured a slow start to the season offensively that only recently began to give way to improved results, and continues to work toward shoring up lingering miscues defensively at third base.
But there wasn’t any reason for Muncy to worry on Saturday night as he tied a career high with seven RBI, buoyed by hitting a pair of three-run home runs in the Dodgers’ 18-2 shellacking of the New York Yankees.
“Just a really good day team-wise offensively. We were putting together good at-bats, had a good idea of what we wanted to do at the plate and we were getting the job done,” Muncy said after the game. “Scored some runs and made it easy on Knack, and he delivered for us. Gave us six strong innings, which was huge.”
Muncy’s first home run came in the second inning and put the Dodgers ahead 7-0. It also represented a personal milestone in that it was Muncy’s 200th home run of his career.

“It’s pretty cool,” he said of the achievement. “To hit as many as I’ve hit in a Dodger uniform, that’s everything to me because of what this organization has meant to me. It’s a blessing, for sure.
“It’s a number I’m definitely proud of. Hopefully I’ve still got a lot more in me. We just need to keep racking up wins like today and it’s going to be a good season for us.”
After a lack of power through April and into May, Muncy has six homers on the season. He’s consistently made hard contact of late and started to meet expectations.
“Just trying to build on the positives. It’s all we can do in this game. The last several weeks, I thought have been really good for me,” Muncy said. “Today was a pretty good game, so try to build on it and keep the momentum moving forward.”
Muncy has slugged 195 home runs in his Dodgers career. He joined the organization in 2018 after a failed stint with the Oakland Athletics and contemplating his future in the sport.
Muncy immediately set a new career high with 35 homers in his first season with the Dodgers, and matched that total in 2019. He then set a career high with 36 home runs in 2021 and equaled that amount in 2023.
Max Muncy impressed by Hyeseong Kim
The Dodgers’ collective effort at the plate included Hyeseong Kim hitting a home run and making two sparkling plays. One was at shortstop on a diving catch and tagging second base for an unassisted double play, and another saw Kim throw out Aaron Judge on his attempt to stretch a single into a double.
“He’s got really good instincts out there,” Muncy said of Kim. “His nickname is ‘The Comet’ for a reason. He showed it on the one double play and the ball off the wall, he read it perfectly and made a great throw into second base. It was really fun to watch.”
