Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts Liked UCLA Throwback Uniform For Homecoming Game Against Colorado

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts much would prefer to have spent his Saturday as part of the World Series, but the early postseason exit instead afforded him an opportunity to attend the homecoming football game between Colorado and UCLA at the Rose Bowl.

Roberts had last seen the Bruins football team in person when he attended the 2022 Sun Bowl in El Paso along with his son. Cole, who was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 2019 MLB Draft but has since joined the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, again was with Roberts.

They were treated to a dominant 28-16 win over the Buffaloes, who didn’t score their only touchdown of the game until the waning moments of the fourth quarter.

Roberts played baseball at UCLA from 1991–1994, was a team captain his final year and two-time All-Pac 10 selection. In addition to attending Bruins football games when possible, Roberts previously voiced his support for the men’s basketball team reaching the Final Four in 2021, and Dodger Stadium put graphics on video boards at Dodger Stadium.

While the Bruins are just over halfway through their 2023 schedule, Roberts and the Dodgers are facing another interesting offseason.

President of baseball operations Andrew Friedman deemed a second consecutive exit in the National League Division Series as an “organizational failure” but did not see that as reason to part with Roberts or make sweeping changes. The Dodgers are due to have 12 players reach free agency this winter and figure to undergo roster turnover.

To further celebrate homecoming weekend on Saturday, UCLA wore a throwback uniform by Jordan Brand that was originally seen from the 1950s through 1970s, and in a similar design that resurfaced in 2009.

The UCLA throwback uniform not only was on full display in front of Roberts but a sold-out crowd at the Rose Bowl as well.
