Dave Roberts Credits Yohan Ramírez For Being ‘Very Resilient’

As the Los Angeles Dodgers looked to bolster their pitching depth amid a plethora of injuries, the team acquired Yohan Ramírez from the New York Mets in exchange for cash considerations.

The right-hander has made 17 appearances since joining the Dodgers in May, compiling a 2.79 ERA, 3.82 FIP and 1.03 WHIP across 19.1 innings pitched.

Ramírez has been especially good over his last 15 games as he owns a 2.04 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 16-to-4 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 17.2 innings pitched.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts praised Ramírez for making the most of his opportunity and emerging as a reliable option in a talented bullpen, via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

“The stuff has always been good enough. It’s just not in the zone enough,” Roberts said of Ramirez, who has been with seven teams in five major-league seasons. “But he has been in the zone. He gets some funky swings, some soft contact. I just love his energy. He’ll do anything I ask of him. He’s very resilient, so he bounces back really well.”

Ramírez has been a pleasant surprise for the Dodgers this season, but he got off to a rough start with the team by allowing three runs over his first two appearances.

Ramírez then escaped a bases-loaded jam in his third game after Roberts walked out to the mound and gave him a pep talk while placing his arms around him.

When asked to explain the heartfelt moment, Roberts said that he wanted to boost Ramírez’s confidence and reassure him that all of his Dodgers teammates had his back.

Yohan Ramírez’s MLB career

Ramírez was originally singed as an international free agent by the Houston Astros out of the Dominican Republic in 2016. He ended up making his MLB debut with the Seattle Mariners four years later and spent parts of three seasons in the organization.

Ramírez then had stints with the Cleveland Guardians, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago White Sox, Baltimore Orioles and Mets before finding his way to the Dodgers.
