The Los Angeles Dodgers avoid a losing streak by defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks, 14-11, in a back-and-forth affair at Chase Field.
With the Diamondbacks playing in their new purple and teal City Connect uniform for the first time this season, they looked to guarantee themselves at least a split of the four-game series against the Dodgers.
They fell into a 1-0 deficit in the first inning but responded with three runs in the bottom half. The Dodgers then pulled even in the second inning and took an 8-3 lead in the third. However, their pitching faltered and the Diamondbacks scored eight unanswered runs.
Just as Arizona appeared prime to cruise to a win, the Dodgers mounted a furious rally in the ninth inning.

In doing so, the Dodgers made MLB history for the modern era (since 1901) by becoming the first team to have a lead, erase a deficit and go ahead by at least five runs, only to trail by three or more before ultimately pulling back ahead for a win.
The offensive explosion helped erase what was a frustrating night for Dodgers pitching. Roki Sasaki allowed five runs over just four innings in his first start of the season on five days’ rest.
Anthony Banda surrendered a grand slam and Alex Vesia gave up back-to-back home runs.

The Dodgers’ final climb up the mountain began with an infield single from Freddie Freeman, who had already extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Andy Pages and Kiké Hernández each hit an RBI double, and Max Muncy followed with a run-scoring single to tie the game before Kevin Ginkel could record a single out.
Ginkel hit Michael Conforto with a pitch to put two on with one out, and he gave way to Ryan Thompson, who surrendered the game-winning home run to Shohei Ohtani.
