Although Blake Treinen was included on the Los Angeles Dodgers travel roster, he wasn’t active when the team began their Seoul Series matchup against the San Diego Padres last week.
Neither was Brusdar Graterol, but that was to be expected as the right-hander had been slowed by hip and shoulder trouble. Graterol initially was projected to be ready to join the Dodgers for their home opener but that possibility was ruled out when he began the season on the 15-day injured list.
Treinen, in somewhat of a surprise, was also placed on the 15-day IL when the Dodgers set their initial Opening Day roster.
Dodgers injury updates
Brusdar Graterol & Blake Treinen
There weren’t any surprises when the Dodgers set their active roster ahead of the Dodger Stadium opener, with Kyle Hurt and Michael Grove presumably being the benefactors of Graterol and Treinen not being available. They may remain on the roster for the foreseeable future.
“They’re both playing catch. Two days ago, they were playing catch while we were in Anaheim,” answered Dodgers manager Dave Roberts when asked for an update on Graterol and Treinen.
“They both had a good day of throwing off of flat ground. They’re not throwing ‘pens right now, so we’re still a ways away for both guys.”
Graterol believes his right shoulder trouble stemmed from the left hip issue compromising mechanics.
Treinen is on the mend from a bruised lung that was suffered as a result of being hit by a comebacker during the Dodgers’ final few days of Cactus League games.
Walker Buehler
In more encouraging news for the Dodgers, they are in the midst of deciding a next step for Walker Buehler as he inches closer to beginning a rehab assignment.
“We still have to decide whether he’s going to Triple-A or if he’s going to go to Arizona to continue to build up,” Roberts said.
“But Walker’s coming. I think he’s coming sooner than we anticipated, which is a good thing for everyone.”
Roberts has not yet indicated how many starts the Dodgers anticipate Buehler making while on a possible rehab assignment.
