The Los Angeles Dodgers have one of baseball’s most effective bullpens, and it may soon be getting a boost as multiple relief pitchers are out on a rehab assignment.
Blake Treinen is nearing the end of his and is expected to be reinstated from the 60-day injured list on Sept. 2, one day after rosters expand to 28 players.
“He said he felt good,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on Monday about Treinen’s latest rehab appearance. “He said his stuff played better than it did his last outing.”
Tommy Kahnle, who has been out since May 17 with right forearm inflammation, began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City, and could be an option for the club in mid-September.
“There’s certainly some boxes that we need to check,” Roberts said. “So I think the floor is certainly two weeks and then kind of, where we’re at, that’ll sort of dictate what we do moving forward.”
Victor González has also been rehabbing with the OKC Dodgers, and according to Roberts, the reports have been positive on the left-hander who has thrown two scoreless innings so far.
“He’s bouncing back, the stuff is good,” Roberts said. “Everything I’ve heard about Victor has been real positive.”
Roberts also reiterated Danny Duffy, who is on a rehab assignment as well, is still a potential option for the Dodgers’ bullpen.
However, while all the relievers are progressing, Roberts added that the Dodgers need them to prove they can be effective before they become options for the postseason roster.
“But I think that we’re pretty certain that with where the calendar is at, we can get them all healthy,” Roberts said. “Now it’s kind of healthy enough and also feeling confident, and the performance. That takes some time, but those guys are easy to bet on.”
Diamondbacks claimed Reyes Moronta from Dodgers
The Arizona Diamondbacks claimed Reyes Moronta off waivers from the Dodgers, they announced on Monday night, hours after the Dodgers activated Brusdar Graterol off the 15-day injured list.
Moronta was designated for assignment as the corresponding move when Dustin May returned from the 60-day IL. He pitched to a 4.18 ERA, 5.11 FIP and 1.14 WHIP over 22 games for the Dodgers.
