While the Los Angeles Dodgers were plenty active at the trade deadline, Tommy Edman has yet to make his debut and the team continues to wait on Max Muncy as well.

Edman and Muncy began respective rehab assignments with Triple-A Oklahoma City last weekend, and on Friday they were joined by Chris Taylor in Las Vegas.

Edman hasn’t played at all during the 2024 season because of right wrist surgery and a sprained ankle suffered during his rehab process in late June. Meanwhile, Muncy has been on the injured list since May 17 because of a right oblique strain.

According to David Vassegh of AM 570 L.A. Sports, Edman is joining the Dodgers roster for the series opener against the Seattle Mariners, and Muncy is expected to be activated on Tuesday:

Edman joining the Dodgers is going to give them added versatility among their position-player group, but he’s primarily expected to be in center field. Edman also has experience playing second base, third base, shortstop and both corner outfield positions.

While the 29-year-old has progressed well of late, Edman is missing an opportunity to be with the Dodgers for their weekend series against his former St. Louis Cardinals teammates. That stems from Edman needing enough opportunities to play the field with Oklahoma City because he had yet to do so this year until starting his current rehab assignment.

Max Muncy’s setbacks

When Muncy first landed on the injured list, he and the Dodgers expressed hope there would be a quick recovery despite the delicate nature of oblique strains. Muncy had only missed the minimum amount of time with an oblique injury in 2021.

But he continued to encounter setbacks whenever attempting to swing a bat, and remained at a loss for the reason why. Muncy’s fortune changed with a visit to the chiropractor, and he since has progressed without issue.
