The Los Angeles Dodgers bullpen has found more success after a disastrous start to the season and they were hoping to add more reinforcements down the stretch.

They have numerous relievers on the injured list, including Yency Almonte, Blake Treinen, Daniel Hudson, Jimmy Nelson, J.P. Feyereisen, Joe Kelly, Alex Reyes and swingman Michael Grove.

While a few of them are probable to pitch for the Dodgers again this season, such as Almonte, Kelly and Grove, the majority will not.

Reyes was already ruled out for 2023 while Feyereisen faces long odds to return.

The latest update from Dodgers manager Dave Roberts also does not come with overall positive news for Hudson, Nelson or Treinen.

Daniel Hudson

Hudson is working his way back from a sprained MCL in his right knee and threw a bullpen session on Thursday. He is expected to throw again soon.

“It was 16 pitches, still some soreness,” Roberts said. “I guess from what I hear, he came out of it well. I’m sure he has another one in two or three days.”

Despite the good news on Hudson, it is still unlikely he will pitch again in 2023. “I think he’s still a long shot,” Roberts reiterated.

“Now when you’re talking about performance and making sure he feels he’s equipped to get Major League hitters out, it’s still a long shot. But I’m still holding out hope.”

Jimmy Nelson

Nelson has been attempting to return to the Dodgers since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2021 and began another rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City this week.

Although that seems to be good news, Roberts again insisted the chances Nelson returns are slim.

“Jimmy’s kind of had a rocky, up and down health and performance,” Roberts said. “So where we’re at right now, could it happen? Certainly. But for me, I think it’s unlikely.”

Blake Treinen

Treinen is in the midst of a rehab assignment at Triple-A as well, but Roberts previously indicated it was a long shot that he would be back in the bullpen this season.

The latest update doesn’t provide much hope of that changing.

Roberts said Treinen is day-to-day on whether he would continue his rehab assignment after an “OK” appearance on Wednesday.

“From what I hear, there’s a little bit of soreness,” Roberts said. “We’ll see what’s the next progression. I don’t know that answer right now.”
