Dodgers Injury Updates: Brusdar Graterol, Blake Treinen & David Price Expected To Face Batters

The Los Angeles Dodgers have less than three weeks to get the likes of Yency Almonte, Tony Gonsolin, Brusdar Graterol, David Price and Blake Treinen back from the 15-day injured list, but recent days has amounted to each making progress.

Almonte advanced to facing batters twice in the past week, and now is set to join Triple-A Oklahoma City for a rehab assignment. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts estimated Almonte would need to make at least two relief appearances prior to getting activated.

Meanwhile, Gonsolin, Graterol, Price and Treinen each have thrown at least one bullpen session over recent days.

Roberts said the next step for Graterol and Treinen is to pitch in a simulated game at Dodger Stadium on Monday, and Price will face batters later in the week, as seen on SportsNet LA:

“Brusdar was good [Saturday]. Effort, the velocity, the stuff was really good. The plan is, I think Monday, he’ll do live BP, see some hitters and then activation, if it goes well, at the end of the week. And Blake is the same thing. … David, he threw a good bullpen [Saturday], and the next progression is to face hitters some time next week. Once he faces some hitters, we’ll see where that leads us.”

Although the three pitchers are expected to face batters this week, Roberts added that Price would return sometime after Graterol and Treinen:

“I think Brusdar and Blake are a tick ahead of David, so I think the end of next week is fair. David is a little behind those guys.”

Graterol already is eligible to be activated, while Treinen can’t come off the IL until Thursday, Sept. 22.

Graterol underwent an MRI earlier this month that did not reveal any damage to ligaments in his elbow and only inflammation. It was an encouraging result that allowed him to quickly resume a throwing program.

Meanwhile, Treinen’s shoulder soreness is not related to the partial tear in his capsule that led to an extended absence and nearly required season-ending surgery.

Price has maintained all along he would recover from left wrist trouble in time to contribute during the postseason.

Dodgers starting rotation shuffle

The Dodgers placed Tyler Anderson on the paternity list Saturday and recalled Andre Jackson from Oklahoma City. Anderson was scheduled to start Monday, which now will be made by Clayton Kershaw, still on five days’ rest because of an off day and Michael Grove being inserted into the rotation last week.

Anderson is expected to return from paternity leave on Tuesday to start one of the doubleheader games against the Arizona Diamondbacks, with Grove getting the ball in the other.
