Dodgers Injury Updates: Andrew Heaney, Max Muncy Begin Rehab Assignments

The Los Angeles Dodgers have dealt with a rash of injuries over the past six weeks, which includes losing Andrew Heaney (left shoulder discomfort) and Max Muncy (left elbow inflammation) during that span.

Heaney was put on the 10-day injured list April 20, while Muncy was sidelined more recently on May 28. Both players are on the comeback trail as they joined Triple-A Oklahoma City to begin respective rehab assignments.

Heaney started Saturday night against the Triple-A Round Rock Express (Texas Rangers affiliate), and retired nine of 11 batters faced over three innings. He allowed one run on two hits and collected five strikeouts without issuing a walk.

Heaney retired the first seven batters before allowing a one-out single in the third inning. The lone run Heaney allowed was driven in by Zach Reks, who was picked by the Dodgers in 10th round of the 2017 MLB Draft.

Reks made his MLB debut with the Dodgers last season but got traded to the Rangers after being designated for assignment last November.

Heaney is expected to make multiple rehab starts for Oklahoma City — potentially upwards of four — prior to rejoining the Dodgers starting rotation.

Muncy hitless in first rehab game

Muncy started at third base for OKC and played the entire game. He went 0-for-3 with a walk and saw a total of 23 pitches across his four plate appearances.

Muncy believes time on the IL will not only allow his damaged left elbow to recover but also lend to improving mentally after a slow start to the season.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts echoed that sentiment and believes Muncy playing in a lower-stress environment could help him get back on track.
