The Los Angeles Dodgers went into the All-Star break with an extended list of starting pitchers on the injured list, including Tyler Glasnow because of lower back tightness.
Glasnow was put on the 15-day IL on July 9, but his stint was backdated to July 6. That nevertheless prevented him from making a start last week against the Philadelphia Phillies.
But because of the break in the Dodgers’ schedule, the retroactive date made it possible that the right-hander returns during the series against the Boston Red Sox this weekend.
According to Jack Harris of the L.A. Times, Glasnow said during 2024 MLB All-Star Game Media Day that he anticipates getting activated once he’s eligible:
Tyler Glasnow is here to experience his first All-Star Game, even though he's on the IL and won't pitch. He said he's most looking forward to watching the HR Derby tonight

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts downplayed concern with Glasnow’s back injury and noted the team intended to provide their ace with some sort of break during the season anyhow.
Glasnow is 8-5 with a 3.47 ERA and 0.93 WHIP in 18 starts this season. Glasnow leads the National League with 143 strikeouts that also rank third overall, trailing only Garrett Crochet (150 strikeouts) of the Chicago White Sox, and San Diego Padres’ Dylan Cease (146).
The 30-year-old is fast approaching a new career high in innings pitched as he currently sits at 109 this year. Glasnow’s all-time high is 120 innings, set last season with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Glasnow earned a first career All-Star Game selection but was unable to appear in the exhibition at Globe Life Field because of his back injury.
When can Tyler Glasnow return?
The earliest date Glasnow can return is Sunday, July 21. Doing so would amount to starting at Dodger Stadium in the series finale against the Red Sox.
However, the Dodgers reportedly are planning to call up pitching prospect River Ryan at some point, and that conceivably could delay Glasnow’s return into the San Francisco Giants series at the beginning of next week.
