Dodgers Injury Update: Tyler Glasnow ‘Highly Unlikely’ To Return In 2024

Tyler Glasnow has long been plagued by injury troubles in his career, and that has not changed in the start of his tenure with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

On Aug. 16, Glasnow was placed on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow tendinitis, but there was an expectation he would miss the minimum amount of time.

However, the process went slower than expected after he was delayed from throwing and did not progress the way they hoped.

Recently, Glasnow has been building back up and there was increased optimism he would return to the rotation sooner rather than later.

That changed on Friday when Glasnow was scratched from his first scheduled simulated game due to more elbow discomfort.

After initial testing, it was revealed Glasnow has a strained elbow and it doesn’t seem he’ll pitch again this season, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said via Juan Toribio of MLB.com:

#Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said scans revealed a sprained elbow for Tyler Glasnow. He said it’s “highly unlikely” he returns this season

When Glasnow first underwent an MRI, the Dodgers training staff told Dave Roberts the results were “promising,” even after his last setback.

However, one day later, the Dodgers learned they’ll likely be without their ace for the remainder of the season, including the playoffs.

His first season with the Dodgers likely ends with him throwing a career-high 134 innings with a 3.49 ERA, 2.90 FIP and 0.95 WHIP while striking out 32.2% of hitters and walking 6.7%.

Without Glasnow, the Dodgers have Jack Flaherty and Yoshinobu Yamamoto lined up as their top two starters, and they’ll have to figure out the best mix of their remaining options that don’t inspire much confidence.

Tyler Glasnow joins long list of injured Dodgers

Glasnow joins a long list of Dodgers pitchers who have suffered season-ending injuries this season or missed the majority of the year.

That list includes Nick Frasso, Brusdar Graterol, Connor Brogdon, Ryan Brasier, Kyle Hurt, Dustin May, River Ryan, Emmet Sheehan, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Walker Buehler, Bobby Miller, Joe Kelly, Michael Grove, Clayton Kershaw, Blake Treinen and Gavin Stone have also suffered injuries this year as well, to varying degrees of severity.

Tony Gonsolin has also yet to pitch this season, but that was due to an injury from a previous year.
