Dodgers Injury Update: Tony Cingrani’s Recovery From Rotator Cuff Strain On Hold

While the Los Angeles Dodgers lost some members from last season’s bullpen unit, Tony Cingrani was among the holdovers who was expected to fill a key role in 2018. However, like several others, his campaign has been interrupted by injury.

Cingrani was removed from a late-April appearance against the San Francisco Giants due to what was described as ‘dead arm,’ and less than two weeks later was put on the 10-day disabled list with left shoulder inflammation.

He returned from the DL after the minimum 10 days, but on June 6 again came out of a game because of injury. That instance was because of left shoulder discomfort, and the next day the Dodgers placed Cingrani on the DL with a rotator cuff strain.

Cingrani has since been working through a rehab process but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that is on hold for the foreseeable future, according to Andy McCullough of the L.A. Times:

Tony Cingrani “felt a little something in his [left] shoulder” last week, Roberts said. The team slowed his rehab. “When he gets ramped back up, I really don’t know,” Roberts said.

Cingrani suffering a setback of sorts comes on the heels of Tom Koehler experiencing something similar. He’s yet to throw a pitch during the season because of an anterior capsule strain suffered in Spring Training, and now will be out at least until August.

Meanwhile, Cingrani went 1-2 with a 4.84 ERA, 2.11 FIP and 1.03 WHIP in 28 games before his second stint on the disabled list. In his absence, the Dodgers have turned to left-handers Scott Alexander, Adam Liberatore and Edward Paredes.
