Dodgers Injuries: No Concern With Tyler Glasnow Leaving Start Due To Cramping

Tyler Glasnow has proven himself as the ace of the Los Angeles Dodgers rotation, and continued to make an early case for the National League Cy Young Award with another fantastic start against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Glasnow pitched six shutout innings, giving up one hit and walking two with nine strikeouts before he started the seventh inning. That increased the right-hander’s scoreless inning streak to 14 consecutive innings.

But when he took the mound in the seventh, Glasnow walked Danny Jansen before allowing a double to Davis Schneider that allowed a run to score.

That ended up being Glasnow’s last pitch as he left the game with 95 pitches thrown. However, there was an injury scare as he left the field with a trainer and then ended up going into the tunnel.

Glasnow returned to the dugout shortly after, and the Dodgers ended up announcing he left the game with cramps. After the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said it’s nothing to be concerned about, via Jack Harris of the L.A. Times:

With a runner still on second, Joe Kelly took over on the mound with no one out and struck out two in a scoreless frame. That closed the line on Glasnow, who pitched 6+ innings, giving up the one run on two hits with three walks and nine strikeouts.

The outing lowered his season ERA to 2.72 with a 0.93 WHIP and 53 strikeouts in 43 innings. He has allowed three runs or fewer in six of his seven starts, and two runs or fewer in five of them.

The Dodgers acquired Glasnow in the offseason and signed him to a long-term contract with the hopes of him leading their pitching staff after a season where they lacked a dominant arm.

With Glasnow’s combination of an elite fastball, curveball and slider, along with plus command, the only thing he needs to do is stay healthy to push himself into consideration as a top starter in baseball.

Glasnow has dealt with injuries throughout his career, but Roberts and the Dodgers still view him as an ace on any staff in MLB.

“I think the next step is the volume,” Roberts said. “I think he’s also being mindful of being a little bit better at managing the running game. Outside of that, for me, he’s a No. 1 for any team in baseball.”
