Dodgers Injury Update: Justin Turner To Miss Multiple Games

The Los Angeles Dodgers removed Justin Turner from their first game out of the All-Star break with what they announced came due to abdominal tightness.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was hopeful they were able to avoid anything too serious, but Turner was not in the lineup on Friday. That’s expected to be the case for the remainder of the series with the San Francisco Giants.

“Justin’s doing OK,” Roberts said. “In his words, ‘It feels like I got hit by a 95-mile-an-hour fastball in the ribs.’ So I think obviously, he’s not doing anything today. He’s not going to be available.

“Better today, a little bit than [Thursday]. But it’s going to be a couple, two or three days I think, before we get him back in the lineup. I don’t see it being an IL situation. But again we have some time to kind of let this thing play out.”

While the Dodgers announced the injury as an abdominal issue, Roberts isn’t sure what the exact nature of it is. However, he is still optimistic that the club was able to catch it before it became more serious.

“You know, I hear abdomen, I hear a little oblique,” Roberts said. “I’m reluctant to say oblique because I know what that means. But he just said he felt it when he was warming up for his last at-bat in the cage.

“So it wasn’t a big violent swing. So I think the incident wasn’t too huge. And then he said, I mean, he said he took his last at-bat even with that but decided not to continue. So I think that as far as that we got ahead of it. But again, I don’t know kind of the exact diagnosis.”

Roberts added the Dodgers have not done any scans on Turner to see the extent of the injury.
