Dodgers Injury Update: Julio Urías Making Rehab Start For Rancho Cucamonga Quakes

The Los Angeles Dodgers hoped Julio Urías would make his return to the starting rotation in the series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies on June 11, but he remained on the 15-day injured list due to lingering hamstring soreness.

He reset a bit and threw multiple bullpen sessions before advancing to pitching against batters while the Dodgers were in Anaheim for the Freeway Series. Urías came out of that well and is now poised to make a rehab start for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the plan is for Urías to complete four innings or throw 60 pitches in the outing. Next for Urías would then be getting activated and starting during the Kansas City Royals series this week.

“Obviously it’s very important to be 100% and fully healthy,” Urías said last week. “At the beginning I tried to rush it and get through it a little bit faster, but it didn’t feel as good as I wanted it to. Now it’s just taking time to get back to 100%. Obviously we’re in a bad stretch right now, but I’m trying to get back and help the team whenever I can.”

His most recent outing before going on the IL saw Urías allow six runs on four homers to the St. Louis Cardinals in just three innings pitched.

Set to become a coveted free agent at the end of the season, Urías is currently 5-4 with a 4.39 ERA, 5.32 FIP and 1.16 WHIP in 10 starts this year.

Dodgers rotation once Julio Urías returns

While Urías has remained on the IL longer than expected, the Dodgers have turned to bullpen games and also needed to call on multiple prospects to fill out their rotation.

Bobby Miller and Emmet Sheehan have taken full advantage of the opportunities, and Roberts said both are expected to remain part of the Dodgers rotation once Urías is activated.
