The Los Angeles Dodgers have been forced to deal with a multitude of injuries throughout the course of the 2018 season, most of which have been to members of their starting rotation.

Four of the five starters that were part of the Opening Day rotation were all on the disabled list the same time at one point. Each has since returned, with the exception of Hyun-Jin Ryu.

Ryu has been out since April due to a severe groin strain, but he finally seems to be making notable progress in his rehab. Ryu has thrown two simulated games within the past week.

He has gotten through those sessions without issue and now is heading out for a rehab assignment with High-A Rancho Cucamonga, via Ken Gurnick of MLB.com:

Hyun-Jin Ryu, out since May 3 with a strained groin, will begin a Minor League rehab assignment with a Thursday start for Class-A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga.

Ryu was off to the best start in his Major League career before going down with the injury, posting a 3-0 record with a 2.12 ERA, 3.13 FIP and 0.86 WHIP while striking out 36 and walking 10 in 29.2 innings in his first six starts.

So even though the Dodgers have a rotation full of healthy starters at present time, they will gladly welcome back Ryu’s services to provide more depth down the stretch of the season.

How many rehab starts Ryu will require before being activated remains to be seen, although considering that he has been out for a majority of the season, it will likely be at least two or three.
