The Los Angeles Dodgers pitching staff has been plagued by injuries throughout the 2025 season, with Brusdar Graterol among those unable to contribute thus far.
The right-hander began the year on the 60-day injured list after undergoing offseason surgery to repair the labrum in his right shoulder. Graterol was limited to just seven games last year because of hip and shoulder trouble, but wound up making three appearances against the New York Yankees in the World Series.
The Dodgers were hopeful that Graterol would be able to return at some point after the All-Star break, but that no longer appears likely.
“It is possible he doesn’t come back,” manager Dave Roberts said. “It’s kind of just where he’s been, kind of his whole trek.”
Roberts revealed that Graterol is not throwing at the moment and added there’s only a “small chance” of the right-hander pitching this season.
If the 26-year-old makes enough progress for a potential return, he wouldn’t need a long Minor League rehab assignment due to his previous experience.
“Not a lot. If Brusdar comes back, he’s done it many times over, where he doesn’t need to go through the whole process,” Roberts said.
“He knows how to pitch in big games. If he’s upright and throwing the baseball well, he’s an easy guy to bet on.”
Dodgers bullpen outlook without Brusdar Graterol
While the latest update on Graterol is unfortunate, the Dodgers are still expecting to get back Tanner Scott, Kirby Yates and Michael Kopech before the end of the regular season.
Kyle Hurt and Roki Sasaki could factor into the equation as well, which would give L.A. plenty of options to choose from for their postseason bullpen. Though, Sasaki is being stretched out as a starter and may not be a likely candidate for the bullpen.
The Dodgers are also optimistic Brock Stewart isn’t dealing with a severe case of right shoulder inflammation, but even with that, he’s expected to miss around three weeks.
