Dodgers Injury Update: Brusdar Graterol Has Not Resumed Throwing

The Los Angeles Dodgers bullpen has been without Brusdar Graterol for the entire 2024 season to date, and he made just one Cactus League appearance in Spring Training before experiencing left hip trouble and right shoulder discomfort.

The Dodgers initially hoped that Graterol would be able to make a recovery in time for the Dodger Stadium home opener on March 28, but he was placed on the 15-day injured list and has since been transferred to the 60-day IL.

The earliest date Graterol can be activated is Monday, May 20. However, that is no longer a viable possibility after the right-hander was shut down from throwing because of lingering shoulder trouble.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided an update on Graterol and said he still weeks — if not months — away from making his 2024 debut, via Doug Padilla of the Southern California News Group:

Roberts said Graterol still has not started a throwing program as he works through a shoulder injury and would be about six weeks away from a return once he does start throwing again, while on a “spring training” timetable.

Prior to being shut down, Graterol had been progressing toward a potential rehab assignment. He threw a 17-pitch bullpen session last month and was close to advancing to facing hitters.

Graterol’s setback is a major blow to a Dodgers bullpen that has been plagued by injuries and inconsistencies this season. While the group has performed better of late, the 25-year-old would undoubtedly have provided a boost.

Graterol enjoyed a career year in 2023 that saw him post a 1.20 ERA, 3.03 FIP and 0.97 WHIP in 67.1 innings pitched across 68 appearances (one start).

While Graterol remains sidelined for the foreseeable future, the Dodgers bullpen recently got back Blake Treinen, whose return is even more important in the wake of Evan Phillips landing on the IL.
