Dodgers Injury Update: Brusdar Graterol Could Resume Throwing This Week

The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Brusdar Graterol off the 60-day injured list earlier this month, but he threw just eight pitches in his 2024 debut against the Philadelphia Phillies on Aug. 6 before being removed with a right hamstring strain.

The team initially believed that Graterol’s injury was much more severe as manager Dave Roberts indicated he sustained a complete tear of the muscle. Such would have required the right-hander to miss the remainder of the 2024 season.

However, an MRI showed that Graterol only suffered a Grade 1 right hamstring strain, which leaves open the possibility of pitching again this year. The 25-year-old has rested over the last two weeks with hopes of throwing again soon.

“Brusdar is supposed to throw a ‘pen sometime this week, I think,” Roberts said. “This guy, I don’t know how we went from carrying him off the mound to two weeks later he’s throwing bullpens.

“He’s a quick healer, so that’s a good thing for the Dodgers.”

In what has been a whirlwind of a month of Graterol, the latest development surrounding his injury is certainly encouraging.

If he is able to resume throwing this week, Graterol would have plenty of time to return to the Dodgers before the end of the regular season. Though, he will likely need to face batters and complete another rehab assignment before rejoining the team.

Graterol missed the entire 2024 season up until his return due to right shoulder inflammation that surfaced during Spring Training. The Dodgers initially believed he would recover in time for the Dodger Stadium opener but that didn’t transpire and Graterol experienced multiple setbacks in the ensuing weeks.

Graterol was replaced on the Dodgers roster by Michael Grove, who has since been optioned back to Triple-A Oklahoma City as the corresponding move to Ryan Brasier getting activated off the 60-day IL.
