Dodgers Injury Update: Bobby Miller Deems Shoulder Inflammation ‘Nothing Too Serious’

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost a key member of their rotation on Saturday when Bobby Miller was placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.

Miller’s IL stint was backdated to April 10, and he has been shut down from throwing for the time being. The Dodgers expressed confidence that the injury is nothing to worry about, and they expect him to build back up at a normal pace.

Even though the issue has been bothering him for some time now, Miller is confident he will be back, he said via Mike DiGiovanna and Jack Harris of the L.A. Times:

“It’s kind of been a nagging thing for a few weeks, but it’s nothing crazy,” Miller said. “Nothing too serious. We’ll be back.”

The Dodgers will need to see how his shoulder responds to rest before making their next decisions, but testing yielded positive early returns for both Miller and the club:

Miller’s exact return date hasn’t yet been determined. While an MRI showed no structural damage to his shoulder, the team will evaluate how he feels this week before green-lighting a resumption of pitching activities.

Miller made three starts this season, posting a 1-1 record with a 5.40 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 11.2 innings. His early struggles seem to be the result of his shoulder inflammation, so results should improve upon his return.

Miller did not blame his poor results on the injury, and much of his struggles were attributed to needed development and growth with his consistency.

The right-hander is in his second season with the team, going a combined 12-5 with a 3.90 ERA with 137 strikeouts in 136.0 innings in 25 Major League starts.

Bobby Miller past injury issues

This is the first time in Miller’s career that he’s been put on the injured list, but he did deal with right shoulder trouble in Spring Training last year.

While that delayed his start to the 2023 season, it proved somewhat beneficial in terms of managing Miller’s workload as he wound up being needed by the Dodgers much earlier than anticipated.
