Dodgers Injury Update: Blake Treinen Won’t Begin Throwing Program ‘For A Couple More Weeks’

When healthy, Blake Treinen has not only been one of the most important relievers on the Los Angeles Dodgers roster, but also one of the most effective in Major League Baseball.

However, staying healthy has been an issue for Treinen in his tenure with the Dodgers. Since his first full season with the team in 2021, Treinen has thrown just 132 total innings, or just over a little more than 30 per year.

The right-hander pitched just five innings in 2022 and missed all of 2023 before tossing 46.2 in 2024 and eight before getting injured again this season.

Treinen is dealing with a low-grade right forearm sprain that will require a lengthy amount of rest to recover. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts recently said Treinen won’t resume throwing for at least a couple more weeks, as seen on SportsNet LA:

“Blake is going to be no throwing for a couple more weeks and then he’ll start his progression.”

Treinen was placed on the 15-day injured list in the middle of April and has not thrown since April 18 when he was warming up in the bullpen to potentially pitch against the Texas Rangers.

He was then transferred to the 60-day IL on May 1, and the Dodgers expect Treinen to be out long-term as they focus on getting him healthy for late in the season and into October.

Fortunately for Treinen, the Dodgers believe he just needs rest rather than surgery or treatment, so he should be able to return this season.

But after going a long stretch of time without throwing, Treinen will face a fairly significant rehab process and throwing progress before he’s able to return.

The 36-year-old was 0-2 with two saves, a 3.38 ERA, 3.66 FIP and 1.38 WHIP in eight games prior to landing on the IL.

Blake Treinen contract details

Treinen signed a two-year deal worth $22 million this past offseason for his age 37 and 38 seasons. He is making $8.5 million this season and $13.5 million next year, but his hit against the luxury tax counts as $11 million each season.
