Dodgers Injury Update: Blake Snell Uncertain For Opening Day

Blake Snell is among the Los Angeles Dodgers pitchers behind schedule in Spring Training after taking on a heavy workload during the 2025 postseason.

The left-hander logged 34 innings across six appearances (five starts) and began to wane in effectiveness as the Dodgers got deeper into October. He also missed time during the season due to a shoulder issue, and it may have never fully recovered during the season.

Snell admitted that his arm felt exhausted at the end of the World Series, and he will now be somewhat limited as the team begins full-squad workouts at Camelback Ranch this week.

“He’s playing catch,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of Snell. “He’s throwing. Once he gets off the mound, throws a ‘pen, faces some hitters, we will know more. But obviously, he’s not there right now. So until he gets off the mound, I just really don’t know.”

Roberts expects Snell to throw a bullpen session in the near future and reiterated that the Dodgers are simply being cautious with the 33-year-old.

“It’s in the foreseeable future,” Roberts said of when Snell will throw off a mound. “Nothing of concern. But I think that when he’s ready to kind of make the progression is when he’s ready.

“So like I said, I think the first day, there’s no hard line dates for any of our players. There really isn’t. I think that we have a ton of depth, a lot of able players, and we’re not going to push any position player, let alone a pitcher, to be ready for whatever date. So, I know Mark (Prior) got it kind of on his calendar. I’m not sure exactly what date that is, though.”

Will Blake Snell be available for Opening Day?
