Blake Snell’s activity in Los Angeles Dodgers camp has been limited to start the new league year due to a shoulder issue that dates back to last season.
Although he has stated his desire to be ready for Opening Day, the uncertainty of Snell’s readiness for Opening Day in 2026 had already been steadily growing. The Dodgers have made it clear that they don’t plan on rushing back any of their players for the start of the season, especially not a pitcher.
Snell has been making slow and steady progress in his throwing program, but it’s increasingly likely that he will not be ready for Opening Day, according to Jack Harris of the California Post:

But he acknowledged that, given the calendar, it’s gonna be “hard” for him to be ready for opening day

Snell carried injury concerns before signing with the Dodgers last offseason, and they have carried over thus far into his time in L.A.
He was highly limited last season, throwing only 61.1 innings in the regular season. Not that the Dodgers were complaining, as they prioritized having him at 100% for the playoffs.
It paid dividends for the team in the postseason, with the left-hander tossing 34 innings across six appearances (five starts).
Thankfully, the Dodgers have the pitching depth to survive any time Snell may miss. It opens an opportunity for other pitchers, such as River Ryan, Gavin Stone, and Emmet Sheehan.
Blake Snell’s arm felt ‘exhausted’ after 2025 postseason
Snell’s 34 postseason innings were vital for the Dodgers’ 2025 World Series run, but it took an additional toll on his arm. He might not have been fully healthy during October last season, but he has no regrets over his decision to pitch after winning his first championship.
Snell was able to avoid surgery and said his only course of treatment for his shoulder this offseason was rest and therapy.
