Dodgers Injury News: Pedro Baez On Cusp Of Beginning Rehab Assignment
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

While the Los Angeles Dodgers starting rotation has gotten healthy in recent weeks, they have passed the injury bug over to the bullpen. At present time the team has three key relievers in Pedro Baez, Tony Cingrani and Josh Fields, on the 10-day disabled list.

Each is dealing with some form of an arm injury, with Baez suffering from bicep tendinitis, Cingrani from a shoulder strain and Fields battling shoulder inflammation. They all recently shifted their rehab to the team’s Spring Training facility in Arizona, and it appears that the process is going well.

Particularly for Baez. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated the right-hander is on the verge of beginning a rehab assignment, via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

Roberts said Tuesday that right-hander Pedro Baez (biceps tendinitis) is the closest to returning among that group. Baez could begin a rehab assignment next week, according to Roberts.

Baez has had some ups and downs in his time with the Dodgers, but there is no denying that he has tossed some quality innings in his five years with the club.

In 241 career games with Los Angeles, Baez has pitched to a 3.07 ERA and 1.17 WHIP, while striking out more than a batter per inning.

He has yielded a 3.23 ERA, 3.29 FIP and 1.50 WHIP in 30 games this season to go along with 36 strikeouts and 16 walks in 30.2 innings.

The Dodgers are certainly looking to add to their bullpen before the non-waiver trade deadline at the end of the month, but getting a healthy Baez, Cingrani and Fields back should also bolster the bullpen for the second half of the season and potential postseason run.
