Dodgers Injury News: Logan Forsythe Potentially On Verge Of Beginning Rehab Assignment

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been bitten by the injury bug early in the 2018 season, particularly in the infield. Three of their four starting infielders, Justin Turner, Logan Forsythe and Corey Seager, are currently on the disabled list.

Turner was the first one to go down, fracturing his wrist after being hit by a pitch during Spring Training. Seager was the most recent, as it was announced on Monday that he will be forced to undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the rest of the season.

Forsythe is dealing with a shoulder injury that landed him on the disabled list a couple weeks into the season. The shoulder pain was something he felt for much of the spring, and it did not help that he was forced to move from second to third base with Turner out.

It was originally expected the Forsythe would only miss the minimum to days with the injury, but he did not come off the DL once being eligible.

It appears Forsythe is close to being healthy though, as Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that he could head out on a rehab assignment this weekend, via Andy McCullough of the L.A. Times:

Logan Forsythe, who has been out since April 14 with shoulder soreness, could start a rehab assignment this weekend.

Roberts has not said what position Forsythe will play when he returns, but given that he was dealing with an arm injury, it would make more sense to put him back at second base where the throws to first are much shorter.

Forsythe’s recovery was delayed a bit as resuming a throwing program led to more soreness in his shoulder. Forsythe got off to a slow start at the plate before landing on the disabled list. In 12 games he slashed just .174/.224/283 with a home run and four RBI.
