Dodgers Injuries: Tommy Edman ‘Day-To-Day’ With Right Ankle Trouble

The Los Angeles Dodgers completed a sweep of the Miami Marlins on Wednesday despite Tommy Edman missing his first full game of the season.

The 29-year-old tweaked his right ankle in Tuesday’s matchup but the hope is that he won’t need a stint on the 10-day injured list.

“I think it’s day-to-day,” manager Dave Roberts said of Edman’s status. “I don’t know if it was sliding [Tuesday] night or running the bases, but it was just the right foot, ankle. He said he felt much better today.

“We have the off day, so it’s day-to-day. I’m not sure if he’s going to be in there on Friday, but if he’s not in there on Friday, I’m certain he’ll be in there on Saturday.”

Edman has been one of the Dodgers’ most important players this season and it appears that he could return to the lineup as soon as Friday, when the team begins a three-game series with the Atlanta Braves.

Through 30 games thus far, Edman is batting .252/.295/.523 with four doubles, one triple, eight home runs and 24 RBI in 122 plate appearances.

Dave Roberts wanted to rest Tommy Edman

Even before Edman’s injury, Roberts expressed a hope to get him some rest. He was held out of the lineup for the first time this season on Monday, but wound up entering the game as a pinch-hitter and delivered a walk-off single in the 10th inning.

“Ideally, I would’ve liked to have given him a full day off, but I just felt at that moment in time, inserting him in the eighth inning was the best chance to win the game,” Roberts said after the Dodgers’ win.

“But I do think him not having a start was a good mental blow for him. He’s played a lot, but whatever it takes to win a game, and he’s all-in on that.”
