Dodgers Injuries: Freddie Freeman Leaves Game After Hit By Pitch

Daily injury updates from Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts have largely trended in a positive direction of late, with the likes of Blake Snell, Blake Treinen, Max Muncy and Roki Saski each being on the mend.

Though, Kiké Hernández is not recovering well from left elbow inflammation and faces and extended absence, and now the Dodgers potentially have a Freddie Freeman injury to navigate.

Freeman was hit by a pitch on the inside of his left wrist during the sixth inning on Sunday and immediately came out of the game. Freeman didn’t show any overt signs of pain, but slowly walked toward the dugout and had a brief conversation with Roberts before heading into the clubhouse.

Hyeseong Kim entered off the bench as a pinch-runner for Freeman, and he remained in the game at second base. That moved Miguel Rojas over to first base.

Freeman went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts prior to coming out of the game. He’s among several Dodgers who have been in an extended slump, but Roberts recently voiced continued confidence in Freeman being able to turn the corner shortly.

Freeman previously suffered a fractured left wrist during the 2017 season that caused him to miss 10 weeks. That prior experience with such an injury could be an unfortunate omen for what’s to come.

The Dodgers’ initial announcement was Freeman exited the game due to a left wrist contusion.

What Freddie Freeman injury would mean for Dodgers

Considering the current state of their roster, if Freeman is to miss any time with a new left wrist injury, it could create an everyday opportunity for Dalton Rushing at first base.

In turn, that would likely lead the Dodgers to recalling Hunter Feduccia from Triple-A Oklahoma City to take on the backup catcher role.

Muncy’s return, which could come in a couple weeks, would then help fill the void at first base but also create a need a third.
