Dodgers Injuries: Chris Taylor Leaves Giants Game With Groin Issue

Chris Taylor ensured the Los Angeles Dodgers would not be no-hit by the San Francisco Giants, but it came as a cost as he immediately was removed from Wednesday’s game due to a groin injury.

Taylor grimaced and began to labor as he rounded first base on an attempt to leg out a hustle double with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and a trainer went out to check on Taylor, who gingerly walked off the field after a brief conversation. The SportsNet LA broadcast captured Taylor appearing to motion toward his right thigh upon getting into the dugout.

Cavan Biggio entered as a pinch-runner and remained in the game at right field, which moved Teoscar Hernández to left field. Gavin Lux, who had pinch-hit for Miguel Vargas with one out in the seventh, took over at second base.

Taylor’s injury came on the same day the Dodgers lost Miguel Rojas to right forearm tightness. Rojas had been out of the lineup the past two games because of what initially was thought to be a relatively minor injury.

Rojas said the forearm trouble surfaced after taking one-handed swings in the cage with a bat that was heavier than he normally used. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts anticipated Rojas being back in the lineup Wednesday, but said an MRI revealed a flexor tendon strain and he faces a long recovery process.

The Dodgers signed Nick Ahmed to help fill the void at shortstop until Mookie Betts returns from a left hand fracture.

Chris Taylor’s injury

The Dodgers announced Taylor was removed from the game because of left groin tightness. Taylor is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Thursday and likely will be put on the 10-day injured list.

The Dodgers are recalling James Outman from Triple-A Oklahoma City to take Taylor’s spot on the active roster.

It’s been a trying season for Taylor, who started to show some signs of improvement at the plate dating back to the series against the Detroit Tigers.

In seven games (six starts) heading into Wednesday’s matchup with the Giants, Taylor had gone 5-for-24 with one double, one RBI and two walks. He went 1-for-3 with one strikeout before suffering the injury.
