Dodgers Injuries: Bobby Miller Shut Down

Bobby Miller impressed as a rookie last year but the 2024 season has not gone according to plan amid an expectation he would take on a larger role in the Los Angeles Dodgers rotation.

Miller had a spot secured in the Dodgers’ Opening Day rotation, though only manage to make three starts before going on the 15-day injured list because of right shoulder inflammation. The roster move was made April 13, but backdated to April 10.

Despite Miller anticipating a quick return, he missed more than two months. The right-hander then struggled through four starts before getting optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City before the All-Star break.

Miller’s outlook moving forward is unclear as he’s been temporarily shut down because of an adductor injury, according to Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:

Meanwhile, right-hander Bobby Miller was scratched from his scheduled start Friday with OKC due to tightness in an adductor muscle. Miller felt the problem during a bullpen session earlier this week. It is not considered serious.

Miller was scheduled to start for the Oklahoma City Baseball Club on Friday night before the injury prompted a change. While the Dodgers are not overly concerned at present time, Miller has not yet been slotted back into the OKC rotation.

The 25-year-old has made two starts since getting demoted last month. He fired five scoreless innings on July 20 but followed that one week later by allowing six runs (five earned) in just 3.2 innings.

Miller additionally made two starts for Oklahoma City in June as part of his rehab assignment.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts had previously said the team expected to have some clarity on Miller’s role and potential return to the Majors after his outing last week.

With the Dodgers, Miller is 1-2 with an 8.07 ERA, 6.28 FIP and 1.83 WHIP in seven starts.

What Bobby Miller’s injury means for Dodgers

Even if Miller’s injury is a short-term issue, it still is going to delay his potential return to the Dodgers rotation. It also creates some question as what his role may be for the remainder of the season. Particularly with Walker Buehler due to join the team after making one more start for OKC.
