Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers legend Gil Hodges was among the former players elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the Golden Days Era Committee. So too were Jim Kaat, Minnie Miñoso and Tony Oliva.

They were part of 10-person ballot comprised of candidates whose primary contribution to the game came from 1950-69.

Meanwhile, the Early Baseball Era Committee inducted Bud Fowler and Buck O’Neil into the Hall of Fame. That also was a 10-person ballot, but consisting of candidates whose primary contributions came prior to 1950.

Candidates needed to receive votes on 75% of the ballots cast by either 16-member committee in order to be enshrined. Hodges garnered 12 votes, which was exactly the threshold to qualify. Fellow Dodgers icon Maury Wills was named among players who received three or fewer votes.

Fowler, Hodges, Kaat, Miñoso, Oliva and O’Neil will be joined in the Hall of Fame Class of 2022 by any electees who emerge from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America voting, which will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 25.

Hodges played a combined 18 seasons with the Dodgers and New York Mets from 1943-63, earning eight All-Star Game selections and three Gold Glove Awards at first base. He spent 12 seasons with Brooklyn before playing four more after the franchise moved to L.A.

During his time with the Dodgers, Hodges batted .274/.360/.488 with 1,884 hits, 361 home runs, 1,254 RBI and 1,088 runs scored. All eight of Hodges’ All-Star Game selections came while he was in Brooklyn, and he is second in Dodgers franchise history in home runs and RBI.

Retired Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully recently shared his support for Hodges’ candidacy, writing “I pray he’ll get into the Hall of Fame.”

Hall of Fame Weekend 2022

Hall of Fame Weekend 2022 is scheduled to be held July 22-25 in Cooperstown, N.Y., with the Induction Ceremony slated for Sunday, July 24, 2022.
