Dodgers Hope Edgardo Henriquez Returns For The Postseason

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost arguably their best reliever on Monday when Edgardo Henriquez was placed on the 15-day injured list.

The Dodgers designated the injury as low back discomfort, but the issue is a little more widespread than that, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts shared.

The timeline for how long Henriquez will be out is not totally clear, but he is not eligible to be activated until Sept. 29, two days after the end of the regular season.

But the Dodgers remain hopeful to get the right-hander back for their postseason run.

“It was just kind of the back, the side,” Roberts said on SportsNet LA. “We’re going to get a scan when he gets back to L.A., or maybe here, I’m not sure. I don’t want to say oblique, but there’s something there.

“It’s an IL, and obviously his season is done for the regular season, but the hope is that we’ll get him back for the postseason.”

Henriquez allowed two runs on Sunday against the Marlins in what was his final outing before going on the IL. He threw just 0.2 innings after entering in the eighth, trying to protect a 3-0 lead.

Henriquez gave up two singles and a walk, which loaded the bases, before another single drove in two runs, and Tanner Scott finished off his inning with a strikeout.

The 24-year-old finishes his 2026 season with 61 appearances in what became a true breakout season. The flamethrower went 4-1 with a 2.85 ERA and also set a Dodgers record for the fastest pitch thrown on a strikeout earlier this year.

Henriquez was an option to see more save opportunities as he continued to impress in high-leverage chances while the rest of the bullpen struggled. Getting him back could be key for their postseason run, given the rest of the bullpen.

Henriquez is in his third season with the Dodgers, striking out 94 batters in 82.1 innings with a 2.73 ERA and a 6-2 record over his career.

Kris Bubic making Dodgers debut soon

As one reliever went down, the Dodgers expect another to join their bullpen soon.

Kris Bubic completed his rehab assignment and joined the Dodgers in Cincinnati. He is expected to be activated as early as Wednesday, and his first appearance will mark his debut with the club after being acquired from the Kansas City Royals at the trade deadline.

Bubic is currently on the 60-day injured list, so the Dodgers will need to make corresponding moves on both their 40-man and active rosters to reinstate him.

The left-hander threw 5.2 scoreless innings and allowed just two hits while recording nine strikeouts across six appearances during a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City.
