Dodgers Play Kenley Jansen Tribute Video For Return To Dodger Stadium

The Los Angeles Dodgers began a series with the defending World Series champion Atlanta Braves on Monday and it amounted to emotional reunions for Kenley Jansen and Freddie Freeman.

After the Dodgers signed Freeman away from Atlanta to be the newest superstar in L.A., the Braves moved to shore up their bullpen by inking Jansen to a one-year contract. Prior to that both players spent their entire careers with the respective franchises.

Prior to Monday’s game, the Dodgers played a special tribute video that featured special moments from the incredible career Jansen created. From his debut outing to Vin Scully anointing Jansen the best closer in L.A. history, and the right-hander voicing his love and affection for the franchise that gave him an opportunity.

The video ended with a ‘Thank you, Kenley Jansen,’ and a large standing ovation from Dodgers fans, accompanied by “California Love” playing on the Dodger Stadium speakers one more time.

Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, manager Dave Roberts and Justin Turner then walked onto the field out to provide Jansen with a few commemorative gifts signifying the first save of his Dodgers career.

Heading into the matchup, Roberts had expressed hope that Dodgers fans would welcome Jansen with cheers, and they certainly obliged during the ceremony.

“It was great. It was the first time I’ve seen him since last year. He looks great. He looks better in a Dodgers uniform, but just to see the reception he got from the fans, well done. It was great,” said Roberts after the Dodgers’ win.

“You could see him getting a little emotional. I’m just happy to see our intelligent and passionate fans appreciated what he’s done for us.”

Jansen shares love for Dodgers fans

As Jansen returned to the stadium where he spent nearly his entire career, he expected a warm welcome from fans because of all the great moments he had with the club.

“We did a lot of great things. I always will appreciate them. They were hard on me at the end. I understand that,” Jansen said. “I had such a high standard for myself, sometimes you show you’re human.

“It’s a very competitive organization, the fans want to see this team win ballgames. I expect them to give me a warm welcome. I love them and I know they love me.”
