Dodgers Hit 3 More Home Runs To Get Back In Win Column Against Cubs

After a lackluster performance on Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers returned to the field against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday looking to start a new win streak.

They were able to do exactly that as they chased Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks early and held on for the 7-5 victory at Dodger Stadium.

It was actually the Cubs that got on the scoreboard first in the top of the first inning on a two-run home run by catcher Willson Contreras off of Alex Wood.

The Dodgers responded quickly in the bottom of the first though when Max Muncy launched his 16th home run of the season, a solo shot to center field to get a run back. Two more runs then came around to score on a two-out double by Yasmani Grandal to give the Dodgers a 3-2 lead through one inning.

They then added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning, first on a two-run home run off the bat of Joc Pederson, scoring Wood, who came up with his first hit of the season. The second run then came around to score on an RBI-single by Kiké Hernandez.

The Cubs got a run back in the top of the fifth inning on what was one of the weirder plays you’ll ever see. Jason Heyward hit a slow roller up the first base line, and instead of letting the ball go foul, Wood tried to flip it to Muncy at first.

Heyward’s foot appeared to interfere with Muncy’s glove, so the ball wound up getting past him and Ian Happ came all the way around from second to score.

Other than that though, Wood completed another very solid outing, getting through seven innings for the first time since his first start of the season.

Scott Alexander came in to pitch the eighth inning for the Dodgers and had one of his rougher outings in a while. He allowed a walk and a single before a two-run double to Contreras, cutting the lead to 6-5.

Kenley Jansen came on for a four-out save and got Addison Russell to strikeout with the tying run on third to end the eighth. He then shut the door down in the ninth to complete the victory.

Cody Bellinger gave Jansen an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo home run, his 16th of the season.
