Dodgers Highlights: Trayce Thompson’s Home Run, Plus Justin Turner, Max Muncy & More Contribute Against Giants

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the San Francisco Giants, 7-2, to become the first team to 100 wins this season. They also accomplished the feat as the fastest team in Dodgers franchise history.

After sloppy defense allowed the Giants to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, the Dodgers quickly erased their deficit and never looked back.

After Justin Turner’s first of three hits on the night, Trayce Thompson put the Dodgers up in the second inning with a two-run home run.

Then in the third inning, the Dodgers strung together five consecutive singles to create some separation. Trea Turner extended his hitting streak to 13 games during that span, and Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy and Justin Turner each drove in a run.

Thompson’s walk snapped the streak of hits but loaded the bases for Joey Gallo, who added onto the Dodgers lead by grounding into a force out. Turner collected his second RBI of the night on a single in the fourth inning.

Julio Urías settled in to allow just two runs over six innings. Wilmer Flores’ solo home run trimmed the Dodgers’ lead to 6-2 in the third inning, but the Giants never drew any closer. Urías scattered five hits and collected eight strikeouts en route to lowering his National League-leading ERA to 2.27.

Dodgers magic numbers

The Dodgers lowered their magic number to three for a guaranteed spot in the NL Division Series. Their magic number is eight for the top seed in the NL, and 12 for home-field advantage through the World Series.
