Dodgers Highlights: Teoscar Hernández’s 3 RBI Enough To Beat Giants

River Ryan had an encouraging MLB debut but the night otherwise belonged to Teoscar Hernández as he carried the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 3-2 win over the San Francisco Giants in the series opener at Dodger Stadium.

That extended the Dodgers’ winning streak to four games and kept them undefeated after the All-Star break.

Ryan received defensive help from Miguel Vargas in the first inning and Freddie Freeman in the second en route to not allowing a run until the fourth. That came on a bit of bad luck as ball four to Matt Chapman got by Will Smith for a passed ball that allowed LaMonte Wade Jr. to score from third base.

Wade opened the inning with a leadoff walk and moved into scoring position on a one-out single before advancing to third on a groundout. Ryan struck out Mike Yastrzemski to hold the Giants to just one run.

The promising Dodgers prospect retired the side in order in the fifth inning but gave way to Alex Vesia with two on and one out in the sixth. It represented Ryan’s first time in his professional career he pitched into the sixth inning.

Ryan exited with the game tied thanks to Hernández’s solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. Vesia kept the game knotted by striking out both batters faced.

Teoscar Hernández’s clutch hits

That immediately paid dividends as Freeman’s two-out walk in the bottom half of the sixth wound up sparking a rally. Blake Snell’s wild pitch allowed Freeman to move into scoring position and Hernández took advantage by lining a go-ahead RBI single into center field.

Tyler Fitzgerald’s home run tied the game in the seventh inning but Hernández answered back with yet another two-out RBI base hit to center field in the eighth inning. The table had been set by Kiké Hernández leading off with a double.
