Dodgers Highlights: Shohei Ohtani & Freddie Freeman Home Runs Vs. White Sox

Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman carried the Los Angeles Dodgers past the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night for their 50th win of the season and putting them in position to complete a series sweep at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Ohtani quickly added onto what’s been an impressive power display by hitting a leadoff home run. The homer was Ohtani’s 24th of the season, which leads all National League players.

The Dodgers’ early lead was short-lived however, as Bobby Miller allowed three runs while laboring through a 38-pitch first inning. That included allowing a three-run homer to Andrew Benintendi and RBI double to Eloy Jiménez.

Miller wound up completing just two innings while needing 60 pitches to do so. The start was his second since a lengthy stint on the 15-day injured list because of right shoulder inflammation.

Freeman pulled the Dodgers even in the third inning with his two-run homer to the opposite field. That was Freeman’s only hit in the game but he’s now batting .338/.433/.650 with six home runs and 15 RBI during June. Overall this season, Freeman’s batting average is back up to .300 and he’s started each of the Dodgers’ 81 games.

Ohtani then put the Dodgers ahead with a two-out RBI single in the fourth inning.

The Dodgers’ bullpen allowed plenty of traffic throughout the night but held the White Sox scoreless. Included in that was Blake Treinen recording four outs for his first appearance of longer than one inning since the 2021 NL Championship Series.

Shohei Ohtani ties Dodgers record

Ohtani’s leadoff home run gave him nine games in a row with at least one RBI, tying a Dodgers franchise record and setting the all-time mark for Los Angeles history.

Bob Fisher (1913), Eddie Brown (1924), Augie Galan (1944), Roy Campanella (1955) and Matt Kemp (2011-2012) also share the Dodgers record with respective streaks of nine games with an RBI.
