Dodgers Highlights: Phillies Defense Implodes, Matt Kemp Comes Up With Big Pinch Hit In Comeback Victory

The Los Angeles Dodgers kept their hot streak going on Monday night, erasing a 4-0 deficit to beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 5-4, in the opener of a four-game series at Dodger Stadium.

Brock Stewart got the start for the Dodgers, and the Phillies attacked him early, scoring four runs on five hits in the first two innings. Stewart was able to settle in and toss scoreless frames in the third and fourth innings before giving way to the bullpen.

While the group has endured their struggles this season, they did another solid job of not letting the Phillies’ lead balloon. The bullpen combined to toss five shutout innings, allowing just two hits.

Phillies starter Vincent Velasquez looked like he was having a memorable night on the mound, tossing five innings of no-hit ball. The Dodgers finally were able to get to him in the sixth, when Yasiel Puig broke up the no-hitter with a single.

He later scored on a double by Joc Pederson, who was then cashed in on a two-out RBI single by Justin Turner to cut the deficit in half. The Dodgers’ big inning came in the eighth, and it was again started by Puig.

He hit a hard ground ball that went off Maikel Franco’s glove at third. Matt Kemp provided the big blow in the inning, following with a pinch-hit RBI double to bring the Dodgers within one.

The Phillies defense continued to implode from there as Kiké Hernandez hit a pop-up that Cesar Hernandez couldn’t locate in the lights. Max Muncy hit a comebacker that went off Phillies reliever Adam Morgan’s glove, resulting in a game-tying RBI infield single.

The winning run then came on a single by Yasmani Grandal, who hit one just past the drawn-in infield. The win was the Dodgers ninth in their past 11 games.
