Dodgers Highlights: Mookie Betts & Miguel Vargas Provide Offense In Sweep Of Padres

The Los Angeles Dodgers completed a sweep of the San Diego Padres with a 4-0 win at Dodger Stadium on Sunday. The Dodgers had already won their fifth consecutive series but their victory on Sunday extended a winning streak at Dodger Stadium to nine games.

The afternoon began with Yency Almonte, Dustin May and Shelby Miller surprising Dodgers fans on the top deck with Mother’s Day flowers. Mookie Betts then deposited another souvenir into the pavilion with his ninth home run of the season to put the Dodgers up 2-0 in the third inning.

Betts has six home runs in the past 15 games, and it was his third against the Padres in a one-week stretch.

The Dodgers failed to score again until knocking Padres starter Ryan Weathers out of the game in the sixth inning. He exited with two outs and responsible for runners at the corners.

Brent Honeywell allowed both to score as his first pitch (after an automatic ball was called for a pitch timer violation) was pulled down the line by Miguel Vargas for a two-run double.

The Dodgers have won 11 consecutive series against the Padres in the regular season, and swept them at Dodger Stadium for the first time since August 5-7, 2022. Over the last three seasons the Dodgers are 31-13 against the Padres.

Gonsolin leads Dodgers pitching

Tony Gonsolin worked around some early traffic to get through five scoreless innings on 85 pitches. He allowed two hits, issued one walk and struck out six batters.

Yency Almonte, Victor González, Brusdar Graterol and Justin Bruihl combined to throw four scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
