The Los Angeles Dodgers found themselves playing an unexpected doubleheader for a second time in the past six days, and they again responded by sweeping both games.

In the game that had been suspended, Mookie Betts tied a career high with five hits to help lead the Dodgers to a 6-1 win. He previously collected five hits on August 26, 2016, as a member of the Boston Red Sox.

Betts’ final hit of the Dodgers’ win was a two-run double in the eighth inning that broke it open late. Freddie Freeman also had an RBI in the victory.

Betts was retired in his his first at-bat of the second game but otherwise continued his hot hitting. He finished 2-for-3 with a walk prior to being removed in the bottom of the sixth for rest purposes.

Overall in the Guardians series, Betts went 9-for-11 with two doubles and three RBI.

The second game also saw Michael Busch hit his first career home run and Kiké Hernández celebrate his 32nd birthday in emphatic fashion. Hernández was 3-for-5 with two doubles and one home run, and each hit notably came against a right-handed pitcher.

Betts, Freeman and Austin Barnes each had two hits in the Dodgers’ 9-3 win. James Outman, Busch and Hernández tied with a game-high two RBI.

Dodgers pitching for doubleheader

After relying on a bullpen game to finish out the suspended contest, the Dodgers relied on Caleb Ferguson, Ryan Yarbrough, Ryan Pepiot and Evan Phillips to complete the sweep.

Ferguson pitched one inning as the opener, followed by three from Yarbrough. Pepiot appeared primed to finish off a five-inning save but Phillips pitched in the ninth.
