Dodgers Highlights: Mookie Betts & Gavin Lux Deliver Timely Hits Against Padres

Mookie Betts and Gavin Lux combined for three RBI to help lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 5-2 win over the San Diego Padres to set the stage for a series rubber match on Sunday.

First pitch at Dodger Stadium was delayed two hours and 15 minutes due to inclement weather but otherwise played without issue. It marked a third rain delay for a Dodgers game this season, of which two have occurred at home.

The late start didn’t have any sort of negative impact on Gavin Stone as he turned in the best outing of his career. Stone held the Padres to two runs over 6.2 innings and collected four strikeouts.

The start was Stone’s longest of his career. He had a perfect game until issuing a leadoff walk in the sixth inning.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers didn’t get Stone any run support until Betts’ RBI single with two outs in the fourth inning. After a Kiké Hernández single put two on in the sixth, Lux snuck an RBI base hit off Tyler Wade’s glove to give the Dodgers a 2-1 lead.

Betts followed with his second RBI single of the game and Shohei Ohtani contributed with a sacrifice fly. Max Muncy added a sac fly of his own in the seventh inning.

Padres-Dodgers benches clear

While Stone was still mowing his way through the Padres lineup, Jurickson Profar took exception to a pitch that was inside off the plate.

Profar stared in Stone’s direction, which drew a response from Will Smith. Profar and Smith exchanged words as Padres and Dodgers benches cleared in the fifth inning but no punches were thrown and thus players didn’t get ejected.
