Dodgers Highlights: Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman & Max Muncy Contribute Against Mariners

The Los Angeles Dodgers again erased a deficit against the Seattle Mariners to come away with another win that completed a three-game series sweep. The Dodgers extended their winning streak to four games in the process and maintained the best record in baseball.

With the Dodgers trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning, Mookie Betts put them ahead with a two-out double that drove in Kevin Kiermaier and Shohei Ohtani. That set a theme for the night as the Dodgers tied their season high with seven two-out RBI.

That didn’t apply in the fourth inning, however, when Will Smith’s sacrifice fly extended the lead to 3-1.

The Dodgers got back to their two-out magic with Freddie Freeman’s RBI double in the fifth inning. Teoscar Hernández followed that with an RBI single, and Max Muncy later cleared the bases with a double that broke the game open.

Muncy’s three-run double was his second two-bagger of the night and gave him one extra-base hit in each of his three games back from the 60-day injured list.

Jack Flaherty was charged for two runs (one earned) over 5.2 innings, and he twice exchanged words with Randy Arozarena. The first instance was after hitting Arozarena with a pitch in the second inning, and Flaherty then shouted in his direction after retiring the outfielder in the third.

Dodgers 40-40 season: Shohei Ohtani

Ohtani moved closer to becoming the first player in Dodgers franchise history with 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in one season.

He swiped second to give him 39 stolen bases this season. Ohtani additionally has hit 39 homers, which is most in the National League.

Once becoming the sixth player in MLB history with a 40-40 season, Ohtani should then become the first to ever have 45 home runs and 45 stolen bases in the same year.
