The Los Angeles Dodgers got to Corbin Burnes early and rode that success to a 10-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers to set the stage for a rubber match on Wednesday night. The finale at Dodger Stadium also will decide the season series, as the teams have split the first six meetings thus far.
Facing Burnes for a second time in the past week, the Dodgers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Mookie Betts leadoff double that was cashed in by Freddie Freeman’s two-out base hit. Trayce Thompson then connected for a three-run home run in the second inning that traveled an estimated 423 feet.
Thompson later brought a run in with a base hit in the fourth inning and tied with Freeman for the game lead in RBI (four). That also was a season high for Thompson and his most since Oct. 3, 2021.
Thompson is 24-for-71 (.338) with five homers and 21 RBI against right-handers this season.

Trea Turner and Freeman each drove in a run during the fourth inning as well, and they combined for three RBI in the eighth inning when the Brewers tasked Victor Caratini with pitching in the lopsided game.
Mookie Betts makes latest Dodgers defensive highlight
While the offense faring well against the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner was noteworthy, Mookie Betts turned in a web gem in the second inning by making a leaping catch. He tracked down the ball at the warning track in right field and his momentum carried him into the fence.
Tony Gonsolin, who allowed just one run over five innings, did a Superman gesture and waited at the dugout steps to congratulate Betts. “I feel like every time the ball is hit out there, something crazy is going to happen,” Gonsolin said after earning his 16th win of the season.
“Mookie is obviously a great outfielder, so tried to do a little ‘Super Mook’ action. It was awesome to see that.”
Freeman added: “Mookie, it’s incredible. I don’t know if it’s been emphasized how amazing that catch was. First step, perfect route.”
